How Does VASER Hi Def® Liposuction Compare to Traditional Liposuction?

Liposuction is still one of the most requested procedures in Miami, FL for its ability to help both men and women attain a slimmer, more sculpted figure. While traditional liposuction has been the gold standard for many years, cosmetic surgery patients today have another figure slimming option from which to choose, VASER Hi Def® Lipo. This innovative procedure uses ultrasonic waves to melt fat cells, creating a more toned appearance. So, if you spend hours at the gym doing a million sit-ups, eat healthily, but still lack the visible definition, VASER Hi Def® Lipo could be your solution.

With many different cosmetic surgery procedures on the market, it can become confusing to determine which technique is best for your goals. The guidance of a knowledgeable and experienced plastic surgeon is key to your understanding of the procedures and the results each one is capable of producing. World-renowned, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey LaGrasso listens attentively to his patient’s aesthetic goals and artistically delivers results that set him above the rest. Patients at Dr. LaGrasso's state-of-the-art surgery center in Miami, FL, enjoy the utmost care during surgery and recovery. If you have been considering liposuction but are unclear about the difference between traditional and VASER Hi Def® liposuction then read below as Dr. LaGrasso compares the two.

Traditional liposuction

Patients in Miami, FL who have stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, may need that little bit of extra help from liposuction. The most common trouble areas that liposuction expertly addresses include the stomach, buttocks, hips, love handles, saddlebags, thighs, calves, ankles, back, arms, and neck. Performed under the careful eye of Dr. LaGrasso, traditional liposuction involves the making of a small incision. He then utilizes various instruments to loosen the fat in the target area, followed by the use of a hollow tube, or cannula, that suctions out the fat.

VASER Hi-Def Liposuction

Unlike traditional liposuction, which focuses primarily on removing fat rather than creating contours, VASER Hi Def® Liposuction is an advanced sculpting technique used to remove the superficial and deep fat from areas such as the thighs, buttocks, arms, back, waist, thighs, and abdominal region, enhancing the visibility of lean muscles. By taking into account a patient’s body shape and muscle definition, dramatic head-turning results often can be crafted during a single procedure and patients walk out the same day. Miami area patients have turned to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. LaGrasso and his expertise in VASER Hi Def® Liposuction to chisel six-pack abs and sculpted pecs, lats, and obliques with very noticeable results.

Also referred to as abdominal etching, VASER Hi Def® Liposuction uses ultrasound technology to target and liquefy stubborn fat in the same areas as traditional liposuction. However, unlike traditional liposuction, ultrasound frequency can distinguish between superficial and deep layers of fat and adjacent tissues, nearby nerves and blood vessels are not affected during this process. In this minimally invasive procedure, the emulsified fat is easily removed in this process, allowing Dr. LaGrasso to masterfully sculpt and contour on the spot. An additional benefit to VASER Hi Def® Liposuction is that it can stimulate collagen production, which results in revived, tighter skin.

Who is a candidate for both procedures?

With both techniques, men and women in Miami who are in good overall health and are at or close to reaching their ideal weight usually are considered suitable candidates for both traditional liposuction and VASER Hi Def® Liposuction. During your consultation, Dr. LaGrasso will assess you to determine if you are in good overall health and if your skin elasticity and firmness are within the normal range. For some patients who have lost an excessive amount of weight, Dr. LaGrasso may recommend other procedures, such as a tummy tuck, simultaneously with liposuction to maximize results. Individuals who have stubborn fat pockets that are out of proportion to the rest of their body and are impervious to diet and exercise are ideal for both procedures.

How does the recovery process differ?

Make no mistake about it, whichever liposuction technique you choose it is still surgery. However, the incisions made during VASER Hi Def® Liposuction are smaller than those required by traditional liposuction surgery, and patients tend to heal more quickly. Patients report little pain and discomfort afterward with both techniques. You will be required to wear special compression garments that will help to minimize swelling as the body adjusts to its new shape. Physical activities should be limited and may be restricted for several weeks after surgery as determined during follow-up visits with Dr. LaGrasso. In 3-4 months, once the swelling has completely subsided, patients should be able to experience their new, toned physique. It is important to maintain a healthy weight so you may enjoy your results for a long time.
